About Jonathan Plowright: Jonathan has given sell-out recitals in major concert halls all over the world, including the Weill/Carnegie Hall in New York, and has appeared with many of the world’s leading orchestras. He has played in such unique locations as game reserves in South Africa, the Schloss Mirabel in Salzburg and St James’s Palace on London’s Pall Mall. He has also enjoyed performing on the world’s most luxurious cruise liners, and his “awesome technique” (The Observer), together with his natural easy charm and wit, have captivated audiences everywhere.
Jonathan’s last six recordings have been for the prestigious Hyperion label and all have received rave reviews in the press. His last CD, released in January 2008, was hailed as “simply stunning” by International Record Review. The outstanding success of Jonathan’s recent recording of Bach Transcriptions by Walter Rummel has led Hyperion to invite him back to the studio in September to record another CD in the series, this time featuring Bach transcriptions by British composers.
Jonathan's passion for Polish tradition of Chopin, Paderewski, Melcer and Stojowski continues in early November when he will be appearing for the first time with the Szymanowski Quartet in Krakow playing piano quintets by Bacewicz and Zarebski. He has also been invited by the Warsaw Philharmonic to play concertos by Melcer and Stojowski during 2010 as part of the orchestra’s Chopin Bicentenary celebrations.
Accolades include Commonwealth Musician of the Year, Fulbright Scholar, winner of the European Piano Competition and recognition in ‘International Who’s Who’.
