Pre-concert lecture: “Polish music as a voice of war during the Great War”

Sunday 11th November 2007, Lecture on Polish Musical and Cultural History by Joseph Herter,  National Gallery of Ireland, Merrion Square, Dublin 2 (Lecture Theatre), 2.30 p.m. - 3.15 p.m.

Public lecture by Polish-American musicologist Joseph Herter entitled: “Polish music as a voice of war during the Great War” (11th Nov is Armistice Day as well as being Polish Independence Day).  Mr Herter has recently published a biography of the Polish composer Zygmunt Stojowski (1870-1946) – one of the composers featured in the Jonathan Plowright concert at 3.30 p.m. at the Gallery.  

Mr Herter’s audiovisual talk will include mention of Stojowski, Paderewski, Chopin, Elgar, Marcella Sembrich (the great Polish coloratura soprano of that time) – as well as the Polish-born English writer Joseph Conrad.

Open to the public. No admission charge.
